How to create HD content for online branding & marketing

This BLOG helps you find a starting point for your online story.
(You found this blog; your customers will find your blog)

Do you need to create high definition content to tell your story online?

The following questions can help a business owner, entrepreneur, artist, musician, rock-band, filmmaker, people that provide services, and anyone that is starting to use the internet as a tool to find an audience.  You will need to stop, think, and take notes...
---------------
Are you an AUTHORITY in your field?  Why?  Who is?

What is your area of expertise? What do you do BEST?

What kind of content can you create to support your area of expertise?
Example:  VLOG, social media posts, podcasts, Blogs, online PR

Write a short bio about "YOURSELF" as if you are pitching "YOU" to someone.  How can the audience get to know you very quickly?  How are you unique?

What kind of social media posts make sense for you to post?  Who does a similar thing as you?  What is their online strategy?

What kind of content do you know how to create?

What useful advice about your industry, coupled with your opinions, can you offer to your audience?  If you had to write a blog right now about what you do, what would the title be?  (Thank you, that's your next blog)

What is your current ONLINE IDENTITY?
Google yourself.  What happens?  Do you like what you see?

Do you own your domain name?  www.YOURname.com - That is the ONLY online property that you have 100% control over what information gets published.  Any other social media site can change the rules at any time, and you are held hostage to their terms and conditions.

Basic online properties to start with:
Facebook LIKE page
Twitter
Pinterest
Google+
YouTube
Blogger
Instagram
SnapChat

Go through EVERY screen on the privacy settings and check or un-check the items that you agree with.  Ensure consistency in the messaging on all of your online platforms.

Who are your community supporters?  Does anyone love what you do?

Do you have the right STYLE for the internet?

How do your favorite websites look? Think about the entire DESIGN...

Do you LOOK professional?
1. Profile pics
2. Clothing
3. Content that you post
4. Social media properties
5. Professional messaging
6. Email address

Example:  Film producer should NOT look like a beach bum on daily posts.
(*This is OK for entrepreneurs!)  :-)

How do you MEASURE your efforts?

Who is clicking on the content that you post?

Are they buying?

What do they like more?

Do you have a capture page to gather emails?

Set up Google Analytics to track a lot of this information.
Set GOALS each week.

What do you want to accomplish?

The greatest salesman in Puerto Rico

Can I really sell ice to an Eskimo?
By: George Ohan

In 4 Lines:
“I AM the world’s greatest salesman!”, I said to myself on this morning of August 11, 2015.   I had a huge smile on my face as I walked away from Tio Luis on the side of the road in Santa Juanita, Bayamón…. 4 bags lighter, because I just hustled about 200 Mangos to a street side fruit vendor in Puerto Rico.

What is this Blog about?
This is a short story about overcoming a challenge that I (George Ohan) was facing and accomplishing a personal goal at the same time.

*A good read for any open-minded entrepreneur seeking professional growth & development in the area of SELLING.  Educate and Accelerate, LET’S BUILD!

You can sell ice to an Eskimo.  Who in the heck came up with that saying?!? Well, I’ve heard it several times throughout my life and I’ve always wondered if I really could sell ice to an Eskimo.  I mean, why would the Eskimo person need more ice?  What pain would I be relieving with my special ice?  Do Eskimos use ice for anything besides being cold?  Is there special ice?  Who rides the dog sleds to bring the fish and meat back to the igloo; Do they need small blocks of ice for that?  Do you think Eskimos would buy shaved ice?  What kind of money do Eskimos have?....U.S. $ if you’re in Alaska, right?    Does it have to be ice to an Eskimo?  How much is a plane ticket to Alaska?  …..this is what happens in my head when I plan on selling something.  I try to dream up any possible question that could be asked, then I try to answer them…. ALL of them.

*You can breach an obstacle, or you can by-pass an obstacle.  It’s your choice.

Can it be Mangos to a Puerto Rican street side fruit vendor instead of ice to an Eskimo?  Recently, I moved to Puerto Rico and I noticed that there are huge mango trees all over the island.  These trees have hundreds of low-hanging fruit for anyone to pick and eat fresh from the tree.  I had a vision of trying to sell these to Puerto Rican fruit sellers and that would be my version of  “selling ice to an Eskimo.”  When I ran this idea across my Puerto Rican friends, and they all laughed at me…. Out loud…… for a few minutes…. But, whatever!

ACTUAL RESPONSE:
“How the fu*k is a GRINGO gonna sell mangos to a Puerto Rican?”
 (Laughing continued)

It was a great question, actually.  So, this became my  “selling ice to an Eskimo” mission.   I started by doing research using my eyes and observing the external environment.  Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities, and Threats.  My initial surveillance showed that most fruit vendors did not sell mangos.  However, in Cosco the cost was about $1 each.  Why did the local fruit vendors not bother to carry mangos?  Too little demand?  Did Puerto Ricans refuse to pay for something that grows so readily on trees?  There was only one way to find out.  I had to come up with a compelling pitch to sell mangos to professional fruit sellers.

I started to notice the age of the fruit sellers.  The younger guys would have more avocado, bread fruit, and coconuts.  My conclusion was that they were gathering these items themselves, or they had other young crews that could easily gather fruit for them.  However, most of these guys still did not sell mangos.  I decided that my target would be the oldest looking fruit seller on my general route.  I chose this person, because I’d be helping him the most.  I gathered up 4 bags of the BEST mangos I could find and I took them to the fruit vendor.  I was going into the transaction as the mangos being my “Loss Leader”  product.  I invested 20 minutes picking the mangos and 20 minutes delivering them, plus travel and fuel costs.  Here I am with about 200 mangos filled in 4 black trash bags.  I show the fruit to the street side vendor as if it’s GOLD! …..He does NOT look impressed.  I use my almost non-existent Spanish-speaking ability to convince Tio Luis to give me $35 for the 4 bags.  He finally agrees after haggling down from $50.00.  I shook his hand and gave him his money back and let him keep the mangos.

I told him that I picked those for free and he told me the exact tree that I picked them from.  He knew by the size and color where I got those exact fruits from.  It was amazing to do business with a person that KNOWS his craft so well.  He also knew that he got a great deal!  I gave him his money back because I wasn’t doing this for a profit; I was doing this for the love of business.   The reason he doesn’t carry mangos is because they sell too fast and take up too much room for other fruits that he sells for more money throughout the day.  The basic rule of “shelf space” and who gets it?

Ice to an Eskimo, We will never know for sure?  Mangos to a Puerto Rican, YES!  I’m more of a warm weather person anyway.

When you want to sell anything you must make a plan and take action.  That’s it.  It’s the only way to find out if people will buy what you’re selling.  Do it.

This blog is intended to help people that are seeking information about small business, entrepreneurship, and building their brand. (Branding & Marketing)

How can you tell your STORY using social media as a platform?  First you need to find out WHAT is your story....

Below you will find a list of questions that should start to help you discover your goals.  You'll also see a short "hint" question to get your creative juices flowing.  Take the proper time to answer the questions and start building your brand.

1. What are your goals?
What should people think when your name comes up, when they talk about you, or what you do?

2. What should be accomplished by your online presence?
Attract more qualified clients, look as professional as big companies, establishing a reputation?

3. What should people know you for?
Expert of organic food, go-to guy or girl for technology, most fresh flowers in Los Angeles.

4. Start to GOOGLE search everything........ Maybe some of you like Bing?
Doing research is a huge part of any business.  Who is the person that has a high status in the field that you're in?  Google them, what comes up?  Take notes from the best.

5. Are you unique?  Do you add value? IDENTIFY how you do this.
This can be how you approach projects, your philosophy, experience.
-What is your voice; what do you have to say to the world?
   -What could you teach others?
-What do you want to influence and what can you already influence?

This is a VERY short list of questions and ideas that can help a new business person get started on building their brand and start marketing their idea.

How do I start a new business - Entrepreneur

WARNING: This Blog will be informational and a little bit entertaining.

So, let's go over the checklist:

1. Business Name
2. Awesome logo design
3. Business Card
4. Facebook "Like" page or Twitter account

Ok, you're DONE!  You, my friend, are an ENTREPRENEUR!!!!

NOT!!!!!!!!!

Why on Earth do people think by simply completing the four steps above that makes them a business owner / entrepreneur?  I really do not understand this madness.

Owning a business or becoming an entrepreneur is: a huge responsibility, a lot of research, hard work, persistence, creativity, positivity, leadership, initiative, and innovation.  If this does not describe you, please reconsider going into business.  This blog is not about discouraging anyone from pursuing their dreams of entrepreneurship.  This blog should be a wake-up call to those that have never considered some of the things I'll mention below.

Let's talk about a little word called PASSION...

The reason I am writing this blog is because I had a meeting with a person (an idiot) today that had a decent idea, but he did not have any plan or research of how he would introduce his company to the market.  However, he DID have steps 1-4 at the top of this blog covered completely.  As I tried to give him any sort of business advice this man rejected 90% of anything that I told him with an excuse of why he didn't do that, or why my idea wouldn't work.  It's ok, it was my fault for taking the meeting.  I knew better than to waste my time just by reading his unprofessional email with grammatical errors.  I took the meeting because I appreciated the fact that the guy had enough sense to seek me out, he had a cool idea, and seemed PASSIONATE.  Big mistake!  Today I learned to not care about how passionate the person is if they don't have the hard work and understanding of their business to back up their passion.

I don't care if you're passionate about something, venture capitalist don't care that your passionate about something, and your invisible customers darn sure don't care if you're passionate about something IF
you have not done the proper work to turn that passion into a feasible and attainable objective.

"The world is not short of ideas, the world is short of execution." - Professor George Abe, UCLA Anderson School of Management

There are MANY steps to cover before going into business; listed below are a few things to consider and a good starting list to gather your information.

(Think Strategically) *NOTE* Strategy should be innovative, not imitative, to create a sustainable competitive advantage.  You should write or type out your answers; don't just answer it in your head.  If you don't know what something means, look it up.

1. What is the opportunity for this business?
2. Can I create a business concept to exploit that opportunity?
3. What resources do I need to exploit and take advantage of the opportunity?
4. How do I assemble and manage the operation?
5. How do I exit the operation?
6. Do we have a Mission Statement?
7. Why do we exist?
8. What is the pain that our customer has?
9. What are we trying to accomplish?
10. What is the purpose of this company?
11. What is the fatal flaw that can take you out instantly?
12. Why would anyone partner with me?
13. What business are you in, really?
14. What are we really good at?
15. What does the market place look like?
16. Who are our customers?
17. What important benefits do we provide to our customers?
18. Are these benefits sustainable?
19. Where can this business be in 3-5 years?
20. Do I know how to read a lease properly?
21. What are the proper business licensees and permits required?
22. What are my threats, opportunities, weakness, and strengths?
23. What is the law of diffusion and innovation?
24. How can I define market segmentation?
25. What is my niche?
26. Have I completed a marketing mix?

This list can go on and on...... However, I will choose to stop here.  I hope that this will enlighten and encourage some people to really step their knowledge up.  This takes some time, intense focus, and a lot of dedication.  Don't give up!  Just know that every time you answer one of these questions you're giving yourself more of a chance to survive in the world of business.  If you're not willing to do it, it's ok because your competition is.

Entrepreneurship is a team sport.  Surround yourself with people that are much smarter than you are.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to educate yourself by reading this blog.  Please feel free to share this blog with anyone that you think can use the information too

Success fueled by ambition - Community Leader / US Army Veteran George Ohan

Ambition:

Some of us have it and others of us need it.  Below are some thoughts that I put together with the studies of Jim Rohn and many other philosophies that I’ve studied.  The difference between success and failure can be a few simple habits.  A few errors in judgments repeated everyday will get you to fail.  Bad habits will show their results a long time after they’re developed.  Thoughts on success below:

Disciplined, Eager, Desire = True ambition.

1.         Success is a minute-by-minute, day-by-day mentality.  Living a successful life isn’t easy; if it were easy most people would have money.  What’s the major difference between people doing good or bad?

2.         Dreams must be well defined, wishes are fuzzy.  Your dreams must be vivid.   Do you know exactly what you want?  Write it out.  I want to see a 10-year plan.  If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

3.         Nothing is an over night success… diligence is the mother of good luck.  Tough it out with intelligence, continue to educate yourself.  Continue to get better each day.

4.         You’ll be as happy as you allow yourself to be right now.  Don’t be depressed because you are working your way toward success.  Learn to celebrate your achievements.  It’s good to acknowledge your accomplishments on your path of success.

5.         Big achievements come one small advantage at a time.  Enjoy who you are becoming every day.   You will change daily during your transformation to becoming the person that you know you can be.  You have the power to mold your life.

6.         Use the ability and power of your mind to build up your success.  Success is a pleasure.  You must be fulfilled with what you are doing today.  Are you happy with your life as it is?  Enjoy the process of becoming successful.  Can you write your successes at the end of each day?  Look for a pattern of what you think is successful.

7.         Try going to bed 30 minutes sooner.  Just try it for 2 weeks.  You’ll get more done and you’ll feel better, just do it.  Start changing how you think, act, and treat others, life will respond to you in the same respect.  Be kind.  What small changes can I start making today?

8.         Take charge of your personal happiness.  You can’t be successful by yourself.  You have the help of the people around you.  Thank them.   Let the people around you know that you appreciate them.  We are an average of the top 5 people that we spend the most time around.

9.         Keep your mind on your course.  Remember your path.  Your goals will push you forward, but you must remember what your ultimate desire is.  People have already paved the way for us.  They had nothing, and ended up with something great.  These people turned their focused dreams to a reality of success.  Seek them out and research how they did it.  Take the time to talk with successful people.  They might have already walked down the roads that we’re trying to walk down currently.

10.       Ambition is not being greedy.  It is an eager desire to achieve, to prosper.  Desire is what you want for yourself.  Ambition is how you get there.  Ambition is an expression.  It is something inside of you.

What are your reasons for creating the dreams that you have?

Why is it so important to achieve these dreams?

Does it make you feel good?

Is it for your family?

What has you inspired to be ambitious?

What is the power behind your ambition?

11.       Self-interest is ok; it is not selfish.  You are benefited by giving service to others.  It must be enlightened; make an investment in the service of others.  Always do more than what you’re paid for.  It is an investment in your future.  You will stand out.

12.       Give the gift of attention.  Life responds to give us what we deserve, not what we need.  The ancient law works like, “if you plant, you will reap” …. In order to find ideas, contacts, and hope, you must search. You must go to where you need to be.  It will not come to you.

13.       Life is not a passing of time.  You must have the discipline to act on your life.  Everything affects everything else.  Everything matters.  Save money or don’t save money. Exercise or no exercise? It all matters.

14.       Don’t let up; you can’t ease up.  When you’re at work; work.  Vacation is for rest.  Be disciplined, get your health back, get your bank account where it’s supposed to be, get your family in order.

 15.      Ambition - it is an eager desire to get more out of life.

16.       Don’t blame others for failures.  It is in your best interest to follow up on everything that affects you.  You are responsible for everything that happens or fails to happen every minute of your life.

17.       Your life will change when YOU change.  Take full responsibility for yourself; whatever your paycheck is… Is that your worth?
