“TOP INDIE FILMMAKER” in Puerto Rico for 2015 - Xander Veguilla
This year Xander Veguilla is named as the “TOP INDIE
FILMMAKER” in Puerto Rico for 2015 as seen by the Veteranos Del Cine Y
Entretenimiento. (#VCE) This will be an annual announcement to encourage the indie artists of Puerto Rico to keep moving forward with their positive work in the community.
Our standards to select a top filmmaker were based on the
#PR2025 initiative of: Community, Youth, Veterans, Business, Leadership, and
Education. After careful consideration we noticed a young man that met every
pillar of our consideration. We believe that Mr. Xander Veguilla can easily
take his talents to Hollywood, or anywhere in the world to tell visual stories with
the best filmmakers around.
VCE recognizes how important it is to identify the next
generation of independent filmmakers, digital artists, and the technology
community in Puerto Rico. That is why we were particularly impressed by the full range of
expertise that Mr. Xander Veguilla shared with us. This young man can write a
script, direct the scene, handle the camera, make the edits, do color
correction, and digitally distribute any digital product. The next generation of
marketing for any small business is here. Indie filmmakers can very affordably revitalize the economy of Puerto Rico by joining forces with the small business community.
A speacial thank you to Mr. Xander Veguilla for his commitment
to the USMC ball 2015 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He volunteered his time and
skills to Direct a beautiful video for the USMC 2015 Birthday Ball. The Marines
were overwhelmed with joy when they saw the final product. This was a true
community collaboration with Team RWB, USMC, VCE, and the very talented Mr.
Xander Veguilla.
We are looking forward to see where 2016 will go with the digital world and young indie artists in Puerto Rico. Xander is currently working on a Documentary and a new television series.
Please take a look below at some links of Xander at work.

I'm happy that I was robbed in Puerto Rico.
Positive Attitude is not a gimmick; It’s my way of life.
I choose gratitude as my tool for maintaining a positive attitude. I enjoy living a happy life by showing gratitude to the people that I deal with. It is a CHOICE to live happy. You can choose to be happy too.
People get “positivity” confused with “fantasy” sometimes.
Positivity doesn’t mean that bad things don’t happen to me.
Positivity doesn’t mean that the universe must favor me or any of my plans.
Positivity doesn’t even guarantee success after you spend a lifetime doing the
“right thing” along your journey. Positivity DOES give you the tool to handle any negative situation,
by always looking for the good no matter what you are faced with.
The night
before Thanksgiving 2015 in San Juan, Puerto Rico somebody smashed the window of our car at the Afrika Club. We were there to film a live performance of recording artist Eddie Lamenaza, but when we got back to our car from checking in with the club
manager, the film and audio equipment was gone. Any "indie" filmmaker knows how bad this sucks.
A few of the items were:
Canon DSLR Camera
2 Lenses
H5 Zoom Audio
Lavalier Microphone
SD Cards
Batteries
Why did this happen to me? Am I a bad person? Is this Karma
from something that I did when I was 16 years old? Where is this negativity
coming from?
……..NONE of those questions matter.
I started to think about: I volunteer with veterans, I mentor kids, I help non-profit
organizations, I treat people well, I even take my dog to the beach…… So, why
me?
……..NONE of those things matter either.
(Brendan Masters, San Diego, CA - Plays Buckets. No Excuses.)
I DO what I do because it makes ME happy. The universe
doesn’t trade my good deeds for a lower amount of negativity that can come my
way. I can’t control WHAT happens to me in my life. We only have control of about
10% of anything that happens in our lives. I only have control over my reaction when something
good or bad happens to me.
Fact: My film
& audio equipment is gone.
Fact: It’s time
for my reaction…….
I kept it cool. I thought to myself, “Good. I hope he bought
his family a nice Thanksgiving Day dinner with the money he got for that
stuff.”
“Maybe this is a sign that I needed to put the camera down,
and focus on bigger things?”
“Now I have an opportunity to learn PhotoShop more. Or maybe
I can buy a better camera? Oh damn, we should call the cops.”
That was my REAL reaction. I didn’t react this way because
it would look better for a blog. I didn’t react this way because I thought that
it would help to magically bring my stuff back. I reacted this way
because I KNEW my stuff was gone. I could not control that situation from happening to
me. I also knew that anger, hate, and over-thinking only leads to the BAD
me. Positivity and
forward-thinking take a massive amount of work to achieve.
I do everything that I can to protect my mind and spirit from any negative thoughts entering or being created within myself.
I do everything that I can to protect my mind and spirit from any negative thoughts entering or being created within myself.
Why would I poison myself with hate because somebody chose
to do something bad to me? It doesn’t make sense to make myself FEEL bad for
something that I didn’t have any control over.
Staying positive helps me keep a clear mind so I can make
better decisions in tough times.
(Combat Veteran, USMC (Ret.) CPL Juan Dominguez; A HAPPY guy)
I didn’t post this on Facebook when it first happened because it
was one day before a holiday break. I didn’t want people to see negativity on
their timelines, and I’m happy that I did that. It gave me time to focus on being happy with the people
around me, instead of waiting to read the comments on a post about something
bad that happened to me. By choosing to not post about this situation, I have
been able to keep my mind clear of negativity.
Negativity destroys creativity, and I can’t afford that.
Thank you to my friend Luiz Burgos (U.S. Navy Veteran) for inviting us to enjoy Thanksgiving Day with his family in Caguas, PR. I'm happy that I didn't make an excuse of having a broken window to not go from Bayamon to Caguas to enjoy time with our Puerto Rican family. Saying YES is part of the happiness equation.

Top producer George Ohan mentioned in film related article. - Film LA
Los Angeles is home to the world’s most talented filmmakers. Need proof? Consider the thousands of students who come to Los Angeles each year to enroll at one of our prestigious local film schools.
FilmL.A. knows just how important student filmmakers are to local filming. Student films make up about seven percent of all permitted film production days (PPD) logged in the Los Angeles region, and in some quarters, we receive just as many days of student filming as we do PPD for full-length features. Student filmmakers are also the next generation of Hitchcocks, Chaplains, Scorseses, and Spielbergs, so we know it’s important that their first experience filming in L.A. is a good one.
FilmL.A. allows students enrolled in accredited, college-level film education programs to apply for film permits at discount rates. A small team of dedicated student coordinators is also available to help students with their permitting needs. From lane closures to street closures, filming at a park or the beach, students can do it all, and our staff members are here to help them with production planning questions and walk them through the film permit process.
The process for obtaining a student permit is a little different for students than it is for other FilmL.A. customers. It starts with an in-person consultation at our office (appointments must be booked at least 72 hours before the first day of filming). Students must then obtain a student certification letter on school letterhead to verify the permit applicant is a current student in good standing. Letters cannot be more than 30 days old and must specify that the student film project is not for commercial purposes. A valid student ID is also required.
FilmL.A. has made things easier for advanced student filmmakers as well. Students working on graduate-level thesis projects no longer have to apply for permits in person. Students meeting this requirement can submit permit applications via FilmL.A.’s Online Permit System (OPS), which prior to September 2011 was reserved for use by film production companies and permit services. A student certification letter and other documentation are still needed, however.
We recently spoke with Ferdinand Ramml and George Ohan, graduates of the American Film Institute and Los Angeles Film School, respectively, and asked them to share their thoughts about student filming in Los Angeles. Ramml already works in Los Angeles as a film producer. Ohan plans to enroll in the University of California Los Angeles’ graduate program in producing.
Asked why he decided to continue working in Los Angeles after graduation, Ramml responded, “I decided to remain in Los Angeles because of the connections I made while I attended AFI.” Ramml went on to say, “Most people want to work in Los Angeles because almost any genre of film can be shot here. Whether it’s a documentary, a music video, a commercial, anything at all – it’s shot here every day.”
George Ohan served in the United States Army for eight years prior to enrolling at Los Angeles Film School. As a student, Ohan had the opportunity to work on professional projects to build his resume. George has visited FilmL.A. many times for film permits for student projects and on behalf of film companies. Ohan was also among the first group of students to use FilmL.A.’s Online Permit System (OPS) to submit permit applications.
“I like the experience of applying in person,” Ohan admits, “but the OPS system allows me to apply from anywhere, which saves me time and money because I have to pay to park when I come downtown.”
When asked for words of wisdom to share with current film students, Ramml advised that students should, “be nice to everyone. Never forget the people who helped you.”
Ohan advised being proactive about community relations. “Shoot responsibly,” Ohan said. “You have to earn trust and credibility and build a rapport with the people in the cities in which you wish to do business.”

Positive energy only please
I never know what obstacle will be thrown in front of me at any given moment. The one thing that I do know is that I do not respond to negativity with negativity. In the last month my van has been vandalized with graffiti, my iphone4 was dropped & cracked, and a studio that we shot at mysteriously couldn't find two of my C-stands when we wrapped up our shoot (filmmaking equipment - value $350 LOST). Each time I have a mis-fortune in my life I use it to make myself a sharper producer and person. It forces me to be in a state of chaos, so I MUST figure out what to do in a very little amount of time. For instance, today my phone was stolen and now I have an iPhone4 again because I had to figure out a way to communicate immediately. If my phone didn't get stolen maybe I wouldn't have taken the initiative to figure out how I can get my iPhone4 fixed for an affordable price? Thank you very mucho to www.LAiPhoneRepair.com - Jonathan was on his job! 3169 W. Cahuenga Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90068 (323) 883-0838.
